Boy, it sure has been some time since I’ve last posted here. But for good reason – in focusing what free time I had I was able to finish a novel manuscript and am now actively seeking representation for it. All in all it took a little over two and a half years from the first notes to being able to sent it to prospective agents. I’m pretty happy with it and hopefully someone else will be as well.

In celebration of finishing said manuscript, I got the above tattoo. Representing my high school years it combines the logo of my favorite band that I grew up going to see in small clubs and record stores, the Alkaline Trio, and an illustration from Kurt Vonnegut’s Slaughterhouse Five, which was very influential during those years. (The most influential, of course, was F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Great Gatsby, but translating that into a simple tattoo isn’t so easy. Someday…). It is my third literary tattoo, after the cover art from Hemingway’s The Sun Also Rises and John Steinbeck’s Pigasus, and my second music tattoo after the sleepwalking boy from the back of Sigur Ros’ untitled album.

The work is courtesy of D from Avalon Tattoo II in San Diego and I couldn’t be happier with it. And thanks to my lovely fiance for buying it for me as a birthday present.
