Chicago and Lake Michigan from space

I don’t want anything right now
other than beautiful words to get lost in.
I don’t want friends
or television
or films
or beautiful women –
only words.

Words that will haunt me and
wake me at night.
Words that will dissect everything
I think I know
and tell me I know nothing.
I want words that will eat
me up inside
and that will stay with me
through hours and days
and lifetimes
and in the shower
and at work
and while making love.
I want words that transcend
humanity and inhumanity
I want words that will eat me alive and
leave nothing of the person I was before.
