VE Day Celebration in London

July 30, 1945

England (The one and only)

Dear Elizabeth,

A belated happy birthday!

Just got here after a wild weekend in Paris. My head is spinning. Over there they’re still partying from V-E Day. The city may have been hit hard but those Parisians sure know how to live. I don’t know how they can keep it up. I slept most of the ride here and I’m still worn out. You have to see that place. The romantic pictures of it don’t do it justice. The loves, the passions, the destruction, all of it shines through and you feel it wherever you go. You have to experience it. So much of the week is a blur of drinking and dancing and singing in the streets. The countdown is short and I know we’ll see each other soon.

Love,

Nicholas
