Today’s song about writing comes from Canadian indie pop band Library Voices, who I was recently introduced to by my friend in Saskatchewan.

It’s always nice to hear modern bands referencing classic literature. Makes me feel good that someone else in my generation is reading the stuff when not being forced to. The song also has a great title – Reluctant Readers Make Reluctant Lovers.

What’s the famous John Waters quote? “We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them.”

I’ve read Yates and Hemingway. Maybe In Our Time it’s just Liars in Love.
When you call out my name like lines from a page I feel my sins washed away.
It feels like I’ve been saved.

I don’t want to die heartless in the heartland. Reluctant readers make reluctant lovers.
So, baby I’m yours.

I’ve read Joyce. I’ve plead Heller’s case. No matter your age – the portrait is the same.
No matter the place – the plots never change.
We grow old at a glacial pace.
Lust is a young man’s game.
