Issue 19 of Saw Palm, the literary magazine of the University of South Florida, is out and my latest short story is in it! The theme of this issue is “Florida Strange” and features a great introduction by Erin Slaughter.
Florida has a reputation for being weird, and for good reason. My short story is titled, “The Sweetheart of I-4.” As anyone who has traveled through Central Florida knows, the only main highway is I-4 and, depending on the time of day, it is a nightmare. (Which I say after growing up and driving in downtown Chicago.)
This piece is a stranger one for me and took some time to find a home, but what better place for it to be published? The first draft was written while I was in the midst of a raging Covid-induced fever, and was inspired by the combination of two nights out, both of which ended in a complete mess. Right now it is only available in print and can be purchased through their website for $10.
Thank you to everyone at Saw Palm who saw worth in my story, and to everyone who reads it, and to everyone who supports independent lit mags everywhere!
