The known knowns of smashing the state

We marched through discarded palaces
and mimicked mediocre towns
to sing our transient people’s praises
while watching them be crucified
on the shop walls and alleyways and toilet stalls.

When the meandering thoughts of grounding surfaced

we ate them

with the furiosity of a dying kingdom,
laughing at funereal rites
and bygone bygones.

Traipsing young men
may have led us here,
but the decaying flesh
will lead us out.
